CORE RELIGIOUS, ETHICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL STUDIES (REPS)

(NON EXAMINATION)

AIM


• To use a range of increasingly complex religious, moral and philosophical vocabulary. 

• To demonstrate the ability to understand and evaluate a range of religious beliefs and worldviews. 

• To use their knowledge to analyse and synthesise personal and critical responses to different issues which impact on the lives of individuals and communities, including current affairs. 

• To form coherent, well-argued conclusions, demonstrating an increasing level of discernment based upon interpretation, analysis and evaluation of sources of wisdom.


CONTENT


The course follows the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. The core KS4 REPS curriculum is structured around topical themes which explore key religious, ethical and philosophical questions. For example: 


THEME QUESTION


Animal rights- is experimenting on animals right?

Inequality and poverty - Is it possible to rid the world of inequality and poverty? 

Sin and crime - Is it right to punish people? 


Students will also have the opportunity to explore religious themes and worldviews through media and film, literature, art and food. This will allow them to understand the influence of faith and belief on individuals and societies.


ASSESSMENT

This is a non-examination subject. Students wishing to obtain a qualification in Religious Studies should refer to the GCSE page within this site.
