AQA EXAMINING BOARD (GCSE 9-1)
CONTENT
SEPARATE SCIENCES
Students who choose Science will study Biology, Chemistry and Physics separately and obtain a GCSE in each subject.
The topics in each subject are similar (see below) to the Combined Science course. However, students will study most topics in greater depth and Physics has an extra topic, Space. In addition to the theory, students will carry out a variety of practical activities, including a total of 28 required practicals specified by the examining board.
This course is an excellent preparation for A-Level Sciences but students need to meet the requirements to do the course: The grade in the end of year 9 assessment must be a minimum of a grade 4.
ASSESSMENT
Each Separate Science GCSE
Students will sit 2 exam papers in each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Each paper will last 1 hour 45 minutes. 15% of the questions will relate to the required practicals that will be carried out during the course.
