HISTORY

AQA EXAMINING BOARD (GCSE 9-1)

AIM


• To develop and extend students’ knowledge and understanding of specified key events, periods and societies in local, British and wider world history and of the wide diversity of human experience 


• To engage in historical enquiry to develop as independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers 


• To develop the ability to ask relevant questions about the past, to investigate issues critically and make valid historical claims by using a range of sources in their historical context 


• To develop an awareness of why people, events and developments have been accorded historical significance and how and why different interpretations have been constructed about them 


• To organise and communicate historical knowledge and understanding in different ways and reach substantiated conclusions. 


CONTENT


There are four parts to the course: 


• One period study = Germany 1890- 1945 Democracy and Dictatorship 


• One wider world study = Conflict and tension in Asia, 1950-75 


• One Thematic study =Migration, Empires and The People 


• One British Depth study including the historic environment = Elizabethan England, c1568-1603

The students will be expected to take an interest in current affairs and social issues. Much of the work for Paper 1 will originate from and be centred around discussions of topics which are still in the news and relate to today’s world. There is also an expectation that the students will be able to independently learn and research relevant issues on their own. 


The study of History develops analytical and presentation skills which can be used in a wide range of employment opportunities, including the legal profession, managerial positions, journalism, and the travel industry
